Cost Reductions and Scale with Materials and Manufacturing

Durashutter reduces shutter manufacturing cost by implementing a variety of improvements on traditional shutter designs. Material costs are reduced, durability improved and eco friendliness increased by using commonly available laminates. Manufacturing steps are reduced from 40 to 5 using modular and snap-in components, and a novel tilt mechanism. At a product level, the cost of Durashutter is approximately 75% lower than standard shutters, making Durashutters cost competitive with many blinds and shades. with the simpler manufacturing process and easily processed laminate materials, manufacturing can scale dramatically to meet rapid volume increases.

Performance Advantages

Durashutter is a superior shutter design. The patented tilt mechanism creates a tighter seal with its frame than other shutters, more effectively stopping airflow as well as blocking light. Durashutters save energy and are applicable in situations requiring “black out” window covering. When opened, the thin laminate louver and lack of tilt bar crates a less obstructed view. The use of laminates provides harder smoother surfaces that are more scratch and stain resistant and easier to clean than traditional painted wooden shutters.

Simplified DIY Assembly and Installation

One of the patented element of Durashutter is its frameless design, which changes shutter installation from ‘professionals only’ to a simple DIY install. Durashutters mount to the front of the window frame and use European hinges with six way adjustments. The innovation of encompassing the outer frame with panel segments and hinges that provide simple 6-axis adjustment screws eliminates the need for carpentry tools and skills required to shim, adjust and toe-nail in traditional shutters. Durashutters can be assembled from a flat pack ready to assemble (RTA) kit with its snap in tilt mechanism and cam type (ala IKEA) fasteners. Most any DIY consumer can assemble and install Durashutters with a screwdriver.
