A DuraShutter specialty shape is made of a “single peace construction”, yes that’s correct, “ DuraShutter specialty shapes are “cut-out” from a solid sheet of material so there are “NO SEAMS!  So, DuraShutter being of a 1- peace construction makes it structurally fit enough to install without an outer frame, thus is recommend to be installed as such.

 

· Specialty shapes are cut from a 4’ x 8’ sheet of pre-coated Dura-laminate sheets by your local cabinet shop ($75+- per sheet), there are lots of them looking for add-on work. Try to nest-into on sheet as many as you can, the more you nest into a 4’ x 8’ sheet the lower your price per s/f. Dura-louvers are then laid-up behind the completed product, etched, then brand saw cut.

· Paint the cuts with fast drying water base KILZ® (Home Depot™), then hand drill holes, insert spring loaded tilt pins. Done!  For a fraction of the cost of a multi-peace high priced material 

DuraShutter specialty shapes are an excellent low cost alternative to traditional high end wood or plastic shutters.  An outer frame is an not necessary in most cases however is an option.  This optional outer frame is cut from a 7/8" sheet of laminated MDF and then married with the specialty shaped 3/4" panel.  

The panel is installed one of two ways, one is to mount the hinge directly to the panel-to-(1) hanging strip-to inside window casement, and the other is to use multiple clip/catches
